REM (Real Estate Magazine) is a monthly Canadian real estate trade journal.[1][4] It is commonly referred to by its abbreviated title, "REM" (pronounced as one word, /ˈrɛm/).

Contents

History

In 1989, Heino Molls launched a cable television specialty channel called Real Estate TV and needed a way to advertise its programs to real estate professionals. At the time, there was no trade journal or magazine for the real estate industry in Canada.[3]

The publication was launched that year as "Real Estate Marketing". Jim Adair, the publication's editor-in-chief, abbreviated this to REM, which remains the acronym of the publication today (though the initials now stand for "Real Estate Magazine").[3]

The first issue of REM was printed in June 1989.[3]

Current operations

REM is published 12 times a year, and remains independently owned and operated. It is not formally affiliated with any real estate board or association. It is distributed monthly to real estate professionals in Canada through real estate boards and by subscription.[5][3]

REM regularly features Canadian real estate professionals of note on its front cover, such as singer-songwriters Shauna Sedola [6] and Heidi Vincent,[7] and science-fiction author Rolf Hitzer.[8]

Circulation

REM is circulated across Canada through real estate boards and associations and by subscription. REM distributes just over 40,000 issues nationally.[2]

Online

Since 2000, REM has been available online at its official website, remonline.com.

REM Revue Immobilière

On October 19, 2011, REM announced it would be launching a French-language counterpart, named REM Revue Immobilière, sometime in 2012. REM also released a fully translated version of its website and e-mail newsletter on the day of this announcement.[9]
